Played the Bear Course on 10/28 (one day before they allowed carts to be 90 degree in fairways) and found the course to be in plush conditions. This links style course has quite a bit of undulation and mounding for a former cotton field...strategically placed fairway bunkers to snag errant tee shots. The tees and fairways had plenty of rye grass but the grass was still a bit high, creating some "fluffy" lies in the fairways. The greens were pretty bumpy and slow (running about 6/7) and according to the staff, they will be cut down more as the weeks progress...so that should be nicer. This course does not have any houses or shopping centers directly along its borders which is a nice change from many of the courses in the Valley. The range and practice area is one of the larger ones in the area and lots of juniors out there practicing. While the restaurant/snack may not appear to be much, the menu is reasonable with salads, burgers and sandwiches in the $5-7 range...and eating out on the patio overlooking the 18 green for the Bear and the Cub courses is a great way to unwind after your round! They even have PB&J sandwiches for $2 -- that was a tasty treat at the turn! The outside staff and beverage cart staff were friendly. Although the course has a "muni" feel to it, the layout will test your shotmaking and short game skills!

Bear Creek is a Jack designed golf course. It it a great layout, has some challanging holes with water. Also has a nice practice area. They also have the Cub course( i have never played that yet) but is a good option for the beginners. They usually have great deals on-line. The only draw back it is pretty far out there on Riggs road

For the value, you can't beat it. The drive to Riggs Road from Phoenix isn't so bad. This is the time of year to play it too because as the tall grass grows in, you'll find it much more challenging if you miss the fairway. It's a great links style course, with quite a few challenging holes depending on the win. The greens are in fair condition, and the beverage cart comes round often.
