Played Quintero a few days before playing Southern Dunes and was really surprised how much better this place was than Quintero. The course was in great shape and the staff was very, very helpful and friendly. They had an (shotgun start)outing scheduled to start 4 hours after we started and we never felt rushed. I will play here again!

Nearly treeless, completely 'houseless'This is a:"you gotta go at least once" type of course. My son and two buddies had a good adventure, even with a one hour frost delay in February.

I have not been to Southern Dunes for a couple years due to some health issues. Decided to drive down and play it today and boy was I disappointed in what used to be one of my top 5 courses in Phoenix. Staff was friendly and the course looks great on the surface, but the bunkers are absolutely terrible to play out of. They are basically 1/32 inch of dirt on hardpan. For what they want to charge for greens fees and the fact that there are so many bunkers on the course this should be an absolute priority to them. I will not go back until they can get them fixed. Shame because I use to love playing out there

Plays long. Be sure your sand game is up to PAR!

First time on the course...been wanting to play since I moved here 6 years ago and I was not disappointed. Although the course in coming out of overseed, it was in pretty good shape. This course is challenging and understandably why there are many USGA qualifiers there. I played the gold tees which measured around 6900 yards. After reviewing the course website and looking at the "flyover" I imagined it would be a difficult day as it appeared very tight with many doglegs and large bunkers, which there were, but in playing it I discovered it to be more friendly than I expected. A lot more room than I expected and the greens were very receptive with not as much contour that I imagined. Kudos to the staff for providing mosquito repellent!!! I would have been eaten alive had it not been for their recommendation and a handy spray of Off. I enjoyed my round, not crowded at all, so I played in just under three hours. For anyone who needs a challenge and likes to get out of Phoenix, it's a great track, quiet, and relaxing.

We played Southern Dunes last week and as always, it is a great value, great layout and great condition! The drive is a good 45 min for me, but we made up the difference with a 3:45 playing time.If you have not tried this one, you should put it on your must play!

This course is worth the drive. It's reasonably priced and will be sure to test ever aspect of your game. There's lots of trouble to find and you should throw an extra stick in the bag. Lots of carry and it helps to be long.

Course is long enough and it is challenging. It is not too long to have time to play it all. Restrooms every three holes, drinks every other hole. After rain difficult to play when course is wet.

Southern Dunes is one of the great secrets of Phenix area golf. Orginally a private club and designed by Fred Couples, this is a must play. The pace of play makes up for the extra distance you have to drive, a true players course, the 3 pars are outstanding, greens are fantasic, always in excellent shape. Highly Recommend!

On 11/20/11 - thanks to Ak-Chin Community for buying this facility, it's in great shape! What used to be private and did not overseed is now public and managed by Troon Golf who take meticulous care of the grounds. Greens and fairways could be cut down a notch (that will probably happen in December) but overall the facility has a very nice layout. Pace of play was a bit slow but it was Sunday morning at 9:00am when we teed off and it took 4:45 to finish. Most of the time when we have played here we finish in less than 4:00. It's 20 miles from Phoenix but well worth the drive and experience. Fred Couples was a designer for the golf course and with the exception of maybe 2 holes which I think need some fixing this is a great golf course and well worth the drive and expense. Number 6 is a par 3 with no landing area and 217 yds. Number 17 is just goofy - tee off to an elevated green that just doesn't look right. The rest of the holes are just great!
