FootGolf comes to AZ!

FootGolf Opening Day

I don’t know about you, but when I was growing up, I’d say I spent more than my fair share of time trying to invent new sports. You probably know the ones I’m talking about.

My personal favorites were the “how many times can I throw the ball off the ceiling and catch it” game, and the “let me see how high I can kick it” challenge.

Pic of me during my skinny & fast stage which was short lived prior to the current pudgy & slow era This is a pic of me from those glory days, also known as my fast & skinny stage which was unfortunately short lived prior to the longstanding pudgy & slow era.

These days it takes a monumental effort to introduce a new game to the masses, but I happen to be very excited about our latest discovery and think it might just have a shot to gain mass appeal.

Maybe I feel that way because soccer and golf were the sports I even mildly excelled at and came closest to meaningful championship moments while playing.

Or maybe it’s because we founded golfmix with the belief that we could help get more people from all different backgrounds into the game and break down some of the traditional & uppity barriers that have been keeping those people out.

After first learning of FootGolf courtesy of the folks at HackGolf during January’s PGA Show in Orlando, the golfmix investigative team went to work to try and find out how we might be able to further the cause. If you haven’t figured it out yet, this sport isn’t the same one your buddies play when they’re stuck behind a tree with no shot to the green and the other team isn’t looking. No, FootGolf is much like it sounds, a game you play with just your feet and a soccer ball.  Watch this video for more background from our friend Roberto Ballestrini, the founder of the American FootGolf League.

The golfmix team is working together with the newly founded Arizona FootGolf Association and is excited to announce Opening Day at AZ’s first FootGolf course is this Saturday! Click here for more info on Opening Day at Shalimar CC in Tempe.

It should be a lot of fun; I can’t wait to try it myself.  All you need is a #5 soccer ball (if you want to play by the official AFGL rules), and if you don’t have one they will be available to rent at the course.  If you go, or even if you can’t make it but want your voice to be heard, please make sure to let us know what you think of FootGolf on our facebook page.
