By far, the best 18 holes you can play in the state of Michigan. Tom Weiskopf created a masterpiece, the front nine is Augusta like and the back nine is Pine Valley. Anything more to say. A bucket list course.

This golf course and I have had quite a love affair. Any time I talk about Michigan golf, I bring Forest Dunes up because I truly believe it's one of the best spots in the state. Before I get to the goods, I'll give you the 2 major drawbacks this place has going for it. One is the location as Roscommon isn't around the corner from the other golf destinations up in Northern Michigan. The other is the bugs that occasionally call Forest Dunes home. Frankly, if it wasn't for those 2 factors, this place would like be hands down #1 in the state for me. The reason Weiskopf & company called it Forest Dunes is simple, the front 9 is played through a forest with dramatic tree lined fairways and gorgeously shaped holes. The back 9, you guessed it, is played through sand dunes in as big of a contrast as you'll find on one course front to back. The green complexes are tremendous and the condition and speed has always been extraordinary. I love the practice area and the 19th hole Par 3 is a fantastic touch as well. The last piece to the puzzle was put in a few years ago, that being a very nice clubhouse with a variety of food to choose from. Overall, this is the type of golf facility I would (and do regularly) recommend to anybody who loves the game of golf and it's definitely a can't miss if you're anywhere near Roscommon, MI!
